Minister of Works, David Umahi, has slammed the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his repeated use of the phrase, “go and verify.”
In a video that went viral on Wednesday, Umahi said he dislikes hearing Obi make the statement when discussing his records, policies and claims about governance.
The minister was reacting to Obi’s practice of encouraging Nigerians to independently examine and verify claims he makes, especially on issues relating to governance, public expenditure, development and his record in office.
“I hate hearing this statement he always makes, ‘go and verify,’” Umahi said.
DAILY POST reports that Obi has repeatedly used “go and verify” to challenge members of the public to check his claims against available records, documents and other sources rather than simply accepting them.
He has regularly presented the approach as an invitation to scrutiny, especially when speaking about his record as governor, Nigeria’s economy, public finances and policy choices.
