JINJA — The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, has urged newly recruited officers at the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) to uphold integrity, professionalism and teamwork in the execution of their duties.
The IGG made the call while welcoming the new officers during an induction training programme at the Civil Service College Uganda in Jinja.
The five-day training, which commenced on August 31, 2026, is aimed at equipping the newly recruited officers with a deeper understanding of the Inspectorate’s mandate, values, systems and professional expectations.
Congratulating the officers upon their appointment, Lady Justice Naluzze reminded them that joining the Inspectorate comes with a significant responsibility because of its critical role in promoting good governance, transparency, accountability, integrity and the fight against corruption.
“You have not simply joined another public institution. You have joined an institution whose work directly affects the lives of citizens and the quality of public service delivery in our country,” she said.
The IGG emphasised that integrity, professionalism and teamwork must be at the centre of the officers’ work, noting that the public expects Inspectorate officers to be fair, professional and impartial in the execution of their duties.
“The public expects us to be fair. They expect us to be professional. They expect us to act without fear or favour. Treat your colleagues with respect, share knowledge and learn from one another,” she said.
Lady Justice Naluzze also urged the officers to take personal responsibility for their work by observing punctuality, meeting deadlines, maintaining proper records, protecting official information and adhering to established procedures.
She reminded them that the ultimate purpose of the Inspectorate is to serve the people of Uganda, stressing that their work can have a direct impact on public service delivery and national development.
The IGG further encouraged the officers to embrace continuous learning and professional development, particularly as the nature of corruption continues to evolve and advances in technology create new opportunities for both improved service delivery and abuse.
She challenged the new officers to become agents of positive change within the Inspectorate and continuously seek innovative and effective ways of serving citizens.
Meanwhile, Ms. Savia Mugwanya, Commissioner at the Civil Service College Uganda and an Appointments Board Member of the Inspectorate of Government representing the Ministry of Public Service, welcomed the IGG to the college and commended the Inspectorate for organising the induction programme.
Ms. Mugwanya urged the newly recruited officers to make full use of the knowledge and skills acquired during the training and challenged them to become exemplary public officers in the execution of their duties.
