Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has sparked a conversation about money and power in relationships after sharing her thoughts on dating a man who is not as financially successful as she is.
The ‘Bloody Samaritan’ hitmaker made the revelation while speaking on an episode of the Wahala podcast, where she opened up about her expectations when it comes to financial responsibilities in a relationship.
According to Ayra Starr, if she ever dates a man who is less wealthy than her, she believes she would naturally have some level of control over him.
She, however, maintained that being wealthier would not stop her partner from taking on the role of a provider in the relationship.
“If I date a man who I am richer than, I will control him. But even if I am richer, he will still be providing, and I won’t let him know I have a lot of money,” she said.
The singer’s comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media.
While some people agreed with her position and argued that men should still provide for their partners regardless of who earns more, others criticized her decision to keep her financial status from a partner.
