Popular cleric Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, aka Odumeje, has shared surprising details about his childhood, revealing that people once hired him to fight on their behalf before he embraced evangelism.
Speaking during a chat with Nedu, Odumeje insisted, “I don’t do comedy,” describing himself as a very dangerous man. He also admitted he was very dangerous stubborn while growing up.
According to him, his reputation was so strong that people would pay him to confront those bullying them. “People they pay me for fight,” he recalled, explaining that after collecting payment, he would fix a date for the confrontation and ensure everyone witnessed it, usually around 5 or 6 p.m. after Onitsha’s Women Market had closed.
Odumeje said his life later took a dramatic turn when he began preaching across Onitsha with a megaphone, despite being widely known as a notorious bad boy.
“I preach gospel street by street of Onitsha with my megaphone, and many laugh at me,” he said.
He disclosed that his former friends saw his new lifestyle as a threat because people mocked them over his transformation. According to him, they repeatedly attacked him, and on one occasion, they seized his megaphone and Bible before beating him.
Reflecting on that period, Odumeje said he remained encouraged by Scripture, quoting John 16:33, Numbers 23, and Matthew 21, while stressing that God never fails or deceives His people.
