It is about asking a fundamental question: When history presents an opportunity for justice, equity and representation, do we seize it or do we postpone it?\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Ahiazu\u002FEzinihitte Federal Constituency has watched the Imo East (Owerri zone) Senate seat rotate among other federal constituencies. It remains the only federal constituency in Owerri zone that has not produced a senator since the return to democratic rule in 1999. The principles of equity and fair representation demand giving the constituency an opportunity now.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The principle of zoning has become an established feature of Nigerian politics. While not always written into law, it has often served as a practical mechanism for promoting inclusion, reducing political exclusion, and strengthening confidence among diverse communities. Communities that feel fairly represented are more likely to participate actively in governance and support democratic institutions.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Against this backdrop, the time has come for Ahiazu \u002F Ezinihitte Federal Constituency to produce the next senator for Owerri zone. This conversation is not about entitlement. It is about fairness.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Recently, different political conversations have emerged regarding the future political leadership of Owerri zone. Various stakeholders have expressed differing opinions on zoning and succession. Regardless of these differences, one lesson remains clear: political opportunities are strongest when they are secured through democratic participation rather than left to uncertain future arrangements.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Governor Hope Uzodimma has publicly spoken about the future political direction of the state, and many people have welcomed those assurances. Yet, as citizens, the people also should understand that politics evolves and that circumstances change. Throughout Nigeria’s democratic history, communities have sometimes seen political expectations fulfilled and, at most times, disappointed.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>For that reason, Mbaise people should approach the future with optimism but also with strategic realism. Rather than relying solely on expectations of what may happen years from now, this election offers an opportunity that is immediate and tangible.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Senate seat is before the people. Luckily enough the  candidate’s name who is the son of the soil is on the ballot. The decision belongs to the voters. You people should not chase shadow with the full anticipation for the governorship election.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Supporting Sir Basil Maduka, therefore, should not simply be viewed through the lens of party politics. It can also be understood as an opportunity for Mbaise people to strengthen their voice within Nigeria’s National Assembly while continuing to pursue the broader political aspirations.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Political influence grows through representation. Communities that consistently occupy strategic offices often negotiate from positions of greater confidence and visibility. That is why many believe Mbaise must negotiate from a position of strength rather than from hope alone.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Fortunately, the discussion is not only about zoning. It is also about the quality of the candidate.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Maduka has built a reputation in business as the Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Group, with interests in the oil and gas sector. Beyond business, he is widely recognised in campaign materials and media reports for philanthropy, youth empowerment, scholarships, support for women, medical outreach programmes, and community development initiatives across Imo State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>During his public engagements, Maduka has consistently highlighted youth employment, entrepreneurship, wealth creation, accessible representation, and economic empowerment as priorities he intends to pursue if elected. He has also pledged to remain accessible to constituents and to use legislative office to expand opportunities for young people and local communities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>His supporters frequently describe him as a businessman who understands investment, job creation, and private-sector development. The National Media Tour, an initiative […]\nThe post SOUTH-EAST: Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Presidential Media Team inspect landmark projects in Imo State appeared first on Vanguard News.","\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>By Soni Daniel\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>OWERRI — In continuation of the National Media Tour to showcase landmark projects of the federal and state governments across the South-East geopolitical zone, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and members of the Presidential Communications Team on Wednesday inspected a number of strategic projects in Imo State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The National Media Tour, an initiative of the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led Renewed Hope Ambassadors in collaboration with the Presidential Media Team, is aimed at providing Nigerians with firsthand information on the implementation of key federal and state infrastructure projects across the country, while promoting transparency, accountability and public awareness of ongoing development initiatives.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The delegation, which included members of the Presidential Communications Team and over 40 senior journalists, toured the completed 56-kilometre Okigwe–Owerri Road, the 36-kilometre Owerri–Obowo–Umuahia Road, and the ongoing upgrade and construction of the standard runway at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Other projects inspected included the newly upgraded Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, now the Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, as well as the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, which has been upgraded to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Speaking during the inspection, the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Mr. Declan Emelumba, said the projects were dividends of the strong partnership between the Federal Government and the Imo State Government.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He noted that the expansion of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport is designed to transform the facility into a major logistics and export hub, with eight modern warehouses for storage and cargo handling expected to boost agricultural exports, commerce and investment in the South-East.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the commissioner, several of the landmark projects were financed by the Imo State Government through the expanded fiscal space available to subnational governments following the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“This is Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education. This place used to be Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, previously owned by the state. Now, the Federal Government has upgraded it to a university less than a year ago.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“What is important here is not just that it has been upgraded. It is a project that has been dear to every government that has ruled Imo State, but none was able to accomplish it because this is one of the oldest Federal Government Colleges of Education in Nigeria.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“I think they said there were about six in the country. Almost all of them had been converted to Federal Universities of Education. So every government in Imo struggled to get it converted but couldn’t realize it until the coming of Governor Hope Uzodimma. And this was realized less than a year ago,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Emelumba said the project had generated significant employment opportunities for Imo people and had also attracted TETFund projects.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The commissioner also explained that the enhanced funding had enabled Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration to accelerate infrastructure development while complementing federal interventions across critical sectors, including transportation, healthcare and education.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He pointed out that the achievements also demonstrated the shared development vision of President Tinubu and Governor Uzodimma, whose administrations are working in synergy to deliver sustainable development and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Special Duties, Mr. Tunde Rahman, emphasized that the successful execution of projects in Imo State, including the university upgrade and improvements to a federal teaching hospital, demonstrates the “beauty and significance” of a state aligning with (NB) Oguta, leading to the interception of a Mercedes truck conveying 10 sections of crude oil pipeline suspected to have been illegally removed from the Addax Petroleum pipeline network along the Osu–Obodo Road corridor.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The operation further resulted in the arrest of two suspects believed to be linked to the criminal network responsible for the Kabiru Musa, sentenced the defendant to 15 years’ imprisonment with an option of a N500,000 fine for the offence of incest.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>For the offence of criminal intimidation, the court sentenced Sylvester to 10 years’ imprisonment with an option of a N250,000 fine, whilst for the offence of assault, the court sentenced the defendant to five years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The court, explaining that the sentences shall run consecutively, further pronounced that the defendant has the constitutional right of appeal against the judgment to the High Court of Adamawa State within the next 30 days.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The judge said the most disturbing part of the case was the testimony of the victim that the defendant habitually intimidated and forced her into sexual intercourse whenever he desired.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Having carefully considered the statement of complaint, the unequivocal plea of guilty entered by the defendant, the oral testimony of the victim in corroboration thereof, and the entire record before the court, I am satisfied that the prosecution has proved the offences charged beyond reasonable doubt as required by law,” the judge said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“A plea of guilty, once voluntarily made and corroborated where necessary, constitutes the strongest evidence against an accused person. When the driver arrived at the Bauchi motor park near Awala Hotel, he contacted her to collect the package.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Her brother reportedly took her to the park on a motorcycle. After collecting the items, they were heading home when the crash occurred.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the source, as they approached the Police Officers’ Mess and were about to turn into the New GRA area, the Sharon bus hit the motorcycle and sped off.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Rebecca was thrown onto the road and suffered severe head injuries, including a fractured skull. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while her brother sustained injuries.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>A First Information Report obtained from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Bauchi Sector Command, showed that the crash occurred at about 5:15 pm on July 14, 2026, and was reported five minutes later.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report stated that FRSC personnel arrived at the scene at about 5:30 p.m., recording a response time of 10 minutes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It identified the motorcycle involved as a Jincheng motorcycle with registration number TFB-38-QB, used for private purposes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The FRSC said two adults, a male and a female, were involved in the crash. region.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the report, the attack occurred in the early hours of July 15 when suspected kidnappers stormed the district head’s residence located in the Hubbare area of Birnin Kebbi.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Makama reported that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Birnin Kebbi received a distress call at about 1:13am, from Alhaji Uwaisu Saad of Ubandoman Kebbi, alerting security operatives to the incident.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report stated that the DPO mobilised a joint security team comprising police operatives, personnel of the 36 Police Mobile Force, officers of the Operations Department, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, and local vigilantes to the scene.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“According to the sources, the suspected kidnappers fled into a nearby bush on sighting the advancing security operatives, abandoning their mission,” the report stated.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Makama added that the security team rescued the district head and members of his family without any of them being abducted.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report, however, stated that three labourers working at the Agya, made this known on Thursday while receiving the Executive Chairman of TIRS, Brigadier General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (retd), and members of his management team during a familiarisation and collaborative visit to the State High Court Complex in Jalingo.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Justice Agya commended the revenue service for its ongoing reforms, describing them as instrumental to the significant improvement in the state’s internally generated revenue.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He also lauded the adoption of technology in revenue administration, noting that the Judiciary’s electronic filing (e-filing) system had enhanced transparency and accountability in the remittance of court-generated revenue into the state treasury.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, the courts remitted about N198 million into the state’s coffers in 2026, despite the Judiciary not being established as a revenue-generating institution.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Chief Judge further directed the deployment of judges to preside over mobile courts to facilitate tax enforcement and ensure compliance with the state’s tax laws.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The Judiciary and the Internal Revenue Service occupy distinct but complementary positions in the machinery of government.
