Incessant doctors’ strikes expose Makinde’s failure in health sector — APC guber candidate

Daily Post 1 day 2 mins read

The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has declared that incessant strikes embarked upon by medical doctors and other professionals have exposed the inadequacies of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration in the state.

Alli, who currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, made the declaration in a statement signed by his spokesman, Bisi Oladele.

The statement was made available to DAILY POST on Sunday in Ibadan.

DAILY POST gathered that resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have embarked on strike.

It was learnt that the doctors embarked on the strike over issues concerning their welfare.

Alli, in the statement, described the strike, which has lasted for over 30 days, as unacceptable.

The APC candidate stressed that the strike had exposed the inadequacies of the current administration in the state.

Alli, while speaking further, also expressed concern over the 21-day warning strike issued by the Association of Medical and Dental Officers of Oyo State (AMDO).

The lawmaker added that what is happening may further compound the woes of patients in hospitals across the state.

“Healthcare delivery is a critical service which serious administrations treat with urgency and with the importance it deserves. With this prolonged strike, our resident doctors are feeling maltreated while the masses suffer. The medical and dental officers across state hospitals have also served notice of a warning strike.

“This combination is a signal of government failure in the health sector. It is unacceptable in our dear state.”
