Independence Day: Shun broad generalisation, assess Tinubu’s economic policies factually — Analyst to Nigerians

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

A public affairs analyst and All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain, Ibrahim Uba, has urged Nigerians to shun broad generalisation and instead assess President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration based on factual evidence.

Uba said this on Thursday, Independence Day, in Abuja, saying those championing the “Tinubu Must Go” campaign do not have the interests of Nigerians at heart.

His comments came after the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in his Independence Day remarks, backed the “Tinubu Must Go” campaign, citing the economic hardship Nigerians are facing.

Reacting, Uba said Nigeria’s economic indicators, including real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 4.43 per cent, a decline in inflation to 15.39 per cent in August and improved access to credit, showed that Tinubu’s policies were on the path to reshaping the country.

According to him, Nigerians should not be distracted by political gimmicks but should remain focused on what has changed in Nigeria since the Tinubu administration came into office in 2023.

“Nigeria’s economy recorded improved real GDP growth in the second quarter of 2026, compared with the corresponding quarter of 2025.

“(Nigeria’s economy recorded 4.43 per cent real GDP growth in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 4.23 per cent in the corresponding quarter of 2025 and 3.89 per cent in the first quarter of 2026, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.)

“Headline inflation stood at 15.39 per cent in August 2026, down marginally from 15.43 per cent in July. While this represents a moderation in the rate of inflation, it does not mean that prices have fallen; the Consumer Price Index continued to rise, meaning households still faced increasing prices, albeit at a slower rate.”

He added that his position was to ensure that public debate about the difficulties Nigerians face also recognises documented positive interventions and allows competing claims to be tested against evidence.
