INEC omits four parties from Bauchi 2027 governorship list

By Christopher Ameh, Bauchi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has omitted the governorship candidates of four political parties — the Social Democratic Party (SDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Action Alliance (AA) and Accord Party — from its published list of candidates for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election.

The commission published the list of governorship candidates and their running mates on its official website on Saturday, listing 15 candidates for the election to succeed Governor Bala Mohammed.

The parties whose candidates appeared on the list include the African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP) and National Rescue Movement (NRM).

However, INEC had yet to explain the omission of the four parties in the information available at the time of filing this report.

The development leaves the status of their governorship nominations and participation in the forthcoming election unclear, pending clarification from the commission and the affected political parties.

The 2027 governorship election is expected to draw considerable political interest as parties prepare to contest control of the state.
