Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ondo State has engaged stakeholders in the Ondo North Senatorial District as part of preparations for the 2027 General Election.

The stakeholders’ meeting was held in Owo, in the Ondo North Senatorial District, with representatives of political parties, security agencies, traditional institutions and other critical groups in attendance.

Speaking at the meeting, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Ondo State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, assured Nigerians that their votes would play a decisive role in determining the outcome of the forthcoming election.

Agboke, who presided over the meeting, said, “People’s valid votes will not only count; they will be the determining factor in the next election.”

The REC reiterated INEC’s commitment to conducting a peaceful, credible, transparent and inclusive electoral process during the 2027 General Election.

He announced that the nationwide display of the preliminary register of voters would commence on October 9, 2026, across the 203 electoral wards in Ondo State.

According to him, “the exercise would enable eligible citizens to verify their voter details and make claims or objections where necessary.”

Agboke also announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would commence simultaneously, urging citizens, especially those who transferred their registration during the recent Continuous Voter Registration exercise, to collect their cards.

He urged political and community stakeholders to work with INEC to promote issue-based campaigns, discourage vote buying and combat political violence ahead of the election.

The REC also called for peaceful participation before, during and after the election, stressing the need for stakeholders and voters to comply with existing electoral laws.

Agboke, accompanied by the Administrative Secretary, Adenike Tadese, and members of the commission’s management team, later paid a courtesy visit to the Olowo of Owo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III.

The Olowo commended INEC’s efforts to improve Nigeria’s electoral process, particularly through technological innovations, and assured the commission of the continued support of the palace and the Olowo-in-Council.

He also pledged to encourage his subjects to participate actively and peacefully in electoral activities.
