ABUJA — The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will on Tuesday update Nigerians on preparations for the 2027 general election as the country marks 100 days to the polls.

The Commission said it would provide updates on the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being put in place to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

The update will be given at a World Press Conference scheduled for October 6, 2026, alongside a National Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja.

In a statement by its Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, the Commission said the briefing would focus on key aspects of its preparations for the elections.

The statement said INEC “will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.”

The press conference will be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, alongside other key stakeholders involved in the electoral process.

The event will be held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, BAT-ICC, Abuja.

The National Stakeholders’ Meeting is expected to bring together political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups.

Also expected are disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.

According to INEC, the engagement is part of efforts to strengthen transparency and communication ahead of the elections and ensure broader participation by stakeholders in the electoral process.

The Commission said the meeting “underlines the Commission’s commitment to absolute transparency, proactive public communication, and collaborative engagement with key actors in the electoral ecosystem.”
