Insecurity: Bandits reportedly block highway in Zamfara

Daily Post about 3 hours 1 mins read

Armed bandits have reportedly blocked the Isa-Shinkafi highway in Zamfara State, raising concerns over the safety of motorists and other road users.

The incident was disclosed on Monday by D English Alhaji, a conflict reporter and advocate of a safe society, in a post on Facebook.

Alhaji, in a brief situation report from the state, wrote: “Bandits have blocked d Isa to shinkafi highway in Zamfara state.”

However, details of the reported blockade, including the exact location, the number of armed men involved and whether travellers were attacked or abducted, were not immediately available.

Zamfara is among the states in Nigeria’s North-West region that have faced persistent security challenges involving armed bandits, with communities and road users frequently exposed to attacks, kidnappings and other criminal activities.

The insecurity has disrupted transportation, farming and commercial activities in several parts of the region, while residents and travellers continue to face concerns over their safety on major roads.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the police or other security agencies confirming the reported blockade or announcing measures to restore movement along the highway.
