Insecurity not treated with seriousness it deserves – Segun Sowunmi

Daily Post about 4 hours 1 mins read

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Segun Sowunmi, says insecurity in Nigeria has not been treated with the seriousness it deserves.

Sowunmi spoke on Monday during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Day Break.

He was reacting to the death of former Nigerian military spokesman, Major-General Rabe Abubakar, rtd, in bandits’ captivity.

According to him, while the government asks Nigerians to be patient and give its policies more time to work, it must also understand that people face the realities of hardship every day, noting that as time passes, frustration and agitation naturally grow.

“We are dealing with individuals involved in violent attacks, but the situation has not been treated with the seriousness it deserves.

“Governors in affected areas have not shown enough urgency, and local governments have also fallen short in their response.

“Even public reaction has not reflected the level of outrage expected, especially after the loss of a senior military officer. Overall, the national response does not match the gravity of the situation,” he said.
