Interswitch Strengthens Verve’s Footprint in Uganda as Bank of India launches its First ever Verve Debit Card

Kampala, Uganda – 14 October 2026 – Interswitch has partnered with Bank of India to launch Verve debit cards for the bank’s customers, marking Bank of India’s entry into card payments and extending the reach of Verve, Interswitch’s domestic card scheme, across Uganda.

This partnership makes Verve the exclusive card scheme for Bank of India, giving customers access to card-based payments and cash withdrawals for the first time. Verve cardholders can withdraw cash at over 800 Interswitch-enabled ATMs and pay for goods and services at more than 20,000 merchant locations nationwide – moving customers who previously relied solely on branch visits onto a cardbased payments model.

For Bank of India, the launch establishes its first card programme on an existing payments infrastructure, enabling customers to access their accounts beyond traditional branch-based banking. Customers can obtain their Verve card directly from any Bank of India branch, with no prior card history required.

The partnership also supports Interswitch’s broader strategy to grow Verve’s issuer base in Uganda and across the region. By expanding the number of banks issuing Verve cards, Interswitch is strengthening the acceptance network and giving more customers access to a locally enabled card payment solution.

Moris Seguya, Country General Manager, Interswitch Uganda, said:

“This partnership brings card payments to Bank of India customers for the first time, while expanding access to Verve across Uganda. Our focus is on making card payments accessible, reliable and easy to use, supported by infrastructure that can scale with the needs of banks and their customers.

“Every new issuer strengthens the wider Verve network by increasing acceptance and giving more customers access to card-based payments. The Bank of India partnership is an important step in expanding that network and supporting the growth of digital payments in Uganda.”

Speaking about the partnership, Srikant Ashok Wikhe, Managing  Director, Bank of India highlighted that

“Partnering with Interswitch to issue Verve debit cards to our customers is a natural step in our journey towards a more digital, customer-centred bank. For us, this goes beyond innovation. It is about making sure our customers have access to financial services that work efficiently, reliably, and right across Uganda. With Interswitch’s extensive network behind us, we are confident that our customers will experience a new level of convenience, wherever they are. We are excited about what this partnership means for our customers and for our strategic ambitions as a bank. This is just the beginning.”

The partnership between Interswitch and Bank of India demonstrates a continued commitment to expanding access to digital payments and providing customers with greater choice and convenience in how they access and use their money.
