If you feel in any way attacked or feel like what I’m doing is in any way directed at you. Then maybe I don’t even want to be there, maybe I shouldn’t even be there, you know, but what I’m saying is the truth.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“I’m not single handedly picking at anyone to antagonize. What I’m speaking to is the practice and not even really the people in particular. I’ve mentioned no name, I’ve mentioned no political part or whatever. So, in fact what they do say when speaking with my manager was something political but this is absolutely zero affiliation. I’m just talking about what is going on. However, China, the world’s second-largest economy, was not among the nations covered.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The record figure was detailed in the World Intangible Investment Highlights 2026, which investments proved more resilient than tangible ones in the face of high interest rates, trade tensions, and the economic slowdown seen in recent years.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Between 2020 and 2025, they grew by 5.5 per cent annually in real terms, compared to 3.2 per cent for tangible investments.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The report said artificial intelligence was playing a major role in the transformation.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>While it initially drives physical investments in data centres, semiconductors, and energy infrastructure, WIPO estimates that its lasting impact stems primarily expressed mixed reactions to the Federal Government’s revised tariff regime, which includes a reduction in import duties on vehicles.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The dealers spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>They said that the policy would reduce vehicle prices, lower business costs and benefit buyers, but noted that its overall impact would depend on other economic factors, including exchange rates.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>NAN recalls that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, announced the revised import duties while defending the service’s 2026 budget proposal before the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Adeniyi announced a reduction in import duty on used vehicles from 15 per cent to 5 per cent, while brand-new vehicles dropped from 20 per cent to 10 per cent.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said that it was to cushion the Green Tax Surcharge impact and promote cleaner vehicles.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, the revised tariff regime forms part of the Federal Government’s broader 2026 fiscal policy and is expected to support economic activities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Mr Ayoade Olamilekan, Chief Executive Officer of Lekjam Auto Nig ltd described the policy as a positive move that would increase the purchasing power of average Nigerians in getting vehicles.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Olamilekan, however, said although implementation of the directive commenced in May, lower vehicle prices would be reflected in the next two to three months, as existing orders were made at previous rates.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“We are all happy; we want everybody to have cars,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Mr Olusegun Oketoyin of OloruntoFunmi Motors also commended the Federal Government’s decision, but said dealers would need to sell their old stock purchased before the tariff revision before buyers could benefit from the reduced duties.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Aminu Abdullahi, a car dealer based in Kano, said the reduction in import duty could increase demand for brand-new vehicles, giving buyers greater confidence and reducing concerns about encounters with customs operatives during highway checks.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Another dealer, Idris Umar, described the reduction as a positive development, adding that the continued depreciation of the Naira against foreign currencies could limit the benefits.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said that although the lower import duty would provide some relief, the exchange rate challenge remained a major concern, as most vehicles were imported from Europe.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>In a post on his verified social media handle, Manga Muhammed, Chief Executive Officer of Manga Automobiles, said lower import duties would reduce vehicle prices, but cars with larger engines would cost more under the policy.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Muhammed said dealers had cleared vehicles at the previous duty rates and would seek to recover their costs to avoid losses, but assured buyers that vehicle prices would eventually decline.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Meanwhile, Eugene Nweke, Head of Research at the Sea Empowerment and Research Centre (SEREC), said fiscal policies that significantly alter import costs without adequate notice could undermine commercial certainty.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said that such fiscal policies could also distort contractual obligations and weaken investor confidence.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Also, Mr Okey Ibeke, Principal Consultant at International Trade Advisory Services Ltd., said the reduction in import duties would not The kidnappers also collected his wedding ring and the vehicle as ransom.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>While parading the suspects and others arrested for various crimes, the Commisisoner in Edo State, Monday Agbonika said Isaac Marvellous and members of his gang kidnapped a woman at the vegetable market on Sunday, June 14, 2026.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Agbonika listed the items recovered from the suspect after the arrest to include a red Lexus RX 350 with registration number EKP 848 AE, which the suspect confessed was used in carrying out the kidnapping operation.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Others are one pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, N2.2million cash and one motorcycle suspected to be proceeds of crime.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Speaking on how he was able to recognise the vehicle 57 days after it was taken away from him, Idehen said, “I had inscribed several identifying marks inside the SUV. Yesterday, I saw a video that went viral. I reported the incident to the police when the kidnappers took the vehicle away. After reporting it, I did everything possible to ensure I got the car back.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“At a point, I almost gave up because from April till now, it is almost two months. I had already resigned myself to the fact that the car was gone forever and decided to focus on other things.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“I encouraged myself that since I was alive, I should let the car go. But yesterday morning, or the day before, I saw the viral video of the kidnapping at the vegetable market. Immediately I saw the vehicle, my instinct told me it was my car.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“When they opened the back seat, I noticed the interior was black. My car has a black interior. The red colour was not the original colour of the vehicle. It was originally grey before they repainted it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“But I just knew it was my car, and my instinct kept telling me that if kidnappers were using such a vehicle for their operations, it was likely mine.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Idehen explained that his conviction  prompted him to visit the Edo State Police Command headquarters.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said before going to the command, he had informed a friend about the viral video and his suspicion that the vehicle belonged to him.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said he also sought advice on the documents and information he would need to prove ownership since both the colour and registration number had been altered.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Idehen posited that he told his friend that the police investigation should go beyond the colour and the registration number of the vehicle.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Surprisingly, early this morning, another friend called to inform me that some suspected kidnappers had been arrested at a hotel and that a red Lexus had been recovered. He advised me to come and check whether it was mine.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“I immediately said, ‘Jesus, that’s my car.’ So, I rushed to the State Police Command. When I got there, I was told the vehicle had been taken to Zone 5.The moment I got there, I saw the car,” he added.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Asked how he confirmed ownership of the vehicle, Idehen said: “I have several markings inside the vehicle. I also have the chassis number and all the vehicle documents. I knew they could not alter the chassis number.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“I only needed personal conviction that it was truly my car. I told the officers that there was a mark inside the boot, another at the front, and several others in different parts of the vehicle. I described each of them.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“When we opened the vehicle, they found all the markings exactly where I said they would be. That was when they concluded that it was indeed my car. As AI becomes more autonomous, we need to work together across industry, governments, academia and civil society to ensure the greatest possible confidence in AI systems.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to ITU Focus Group, the ability to establish an agent’s identity and whether its behaviour can be trusted becomes critical, especially as AI systems plan and act with growing independence\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Increasingly, AI agents need to identify and authenticate one another. Just as importantly, their decisions and actions must remain accountable, controllable and trustworthy. Identity systems establish who is acting, while trustworthiness determines whether that actor is reliable. Together they provide the foundation for safe interaction between humans and autonomous AI systems.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The Focus Group will address the challenges of trust management for people and AI agents, the overall trustworthiness of agentic AI systems, and ways to strengthen confidence in how AI agents behave while retaining authority over their actions,” the group said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Focus Group Co-Chair, Debora Comparin, said: “AI agents will soon negotiate, transact and make decisions on our behalf. Before that future becomes reality, we need common international foundations that establish who these agents are, when they can be trusted, and how people will remain in control. That is the challenge this Focus Group has been created to address.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Focus Group Co-Chair, Amir Banifatemi, also said: “Agentic AI introduces a new class of digital actors that will increasingly collaborate with people and one another. Identity tells us who is acting and trustworthiness tells us how that actor can be expected to behave. Bringing these together creates the common foundation needed for interoperable, accountable, and trusted AI systems at global scale.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the group, it’s open to technical experts as well as specialists in policy, law and regulation to develop: common terminology and definitions;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>reference architectures for identity, trust, agent discovery, and interoperability;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>trust frameworks and lifecycle (assurance) models; interoperability mechanisms for digital identity and credentials; security criteria and benchmarks for the continuous assessment of AI agents; and a standardisation roadmap to coordinate action across expert communities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Focus Group will report to ITU’s expert group for security standards, known as ITU-T Study Group 17.  \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Also speaking about the initiative, Chair of ITU-T Study Group 17, Arnaud Taddei, said: “We are moving strategically and swiftly but deliberately taking the time to get the foundations right. We know the direction and broadly what we want to build. We are now assembling the right leadership and structure, and AI for Good is exactly where we will meet the partners that would like to join us.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Director, ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, Seizo Onoe, said: “The consensus we build while developing ITU standards creates the clarity we need for new innovation ecosystems to grow. The focus group is an open platform designed to help everyone move forward with confidence and certainty.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The group’s Co-Chairs will be joined by a larger leadership team that will be finalised in the coming weeks following broad consultation.
