The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved ₦1.48 billion for constituency projects across the state’s 30 constituencies and endorsed a new policy to promote gender equality and inclusive education.

The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Dutse, on Monday.

He said the constituency projects, valued at ₦1,478,046,426.30, would cover the construction, completion and renovation of Juma’at and daily prayer mosques, as well as houses belonging to district and village heads.

According to him, the projects also include interlocking works, the construction of perimeter walls around graveyards, installation of solar power systems, procurement of generators, and the supply and installation of prayer carpets.

Musa explained that the interventions were designed to address the specific needs of individual constituencies, improve community facilities and support religious and traditional institutions.

The council also approved the Jigawa State Policy on Gender in Education and its Implementation Guidelines to expand access to quality education for all children, regardless of gender or socio-economic background.

The policy was developed with support from the Jigawa State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project. It seeks to address socio-cultural barriers affecting school enrolment, participation, retention and learning outcomes, particularly among adolescent girls and other vulnerable groups.

It is also expected to strengthen institutional capacity, promote community engagement and encourage collaboration among government agencies, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, parents and other stakeholders.

The policy provides a framework for addressing harmful cultural practices and other barriers that prevent children, particularly girls, from achieving their full educational potential.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s education priorities and global commitments to inclusive education and gender equality, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 5, which focus on quality education and gender equality, respectively.
