has warned livestock traders, transporters and poultry sellers that they risk fines and prosecution if found guilty of animal cruelty.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Director of Livestock Extension at the Jigawa State Ministry of Livestock Development, Mudansir Habib, disclosed this during a sensitisation visit to Shuwarin Weekly Market as part of activities marking Global Animal Welfare Week.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said the government would take strict action against those who violate animal welfare guidelines, including imposing fines and prosecuting offenders where necessary.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, the campaign aims to educate livestock traders and transporters on proper feeding, hygiene, safe transportation and the humane handling of animals.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Habib specifically warned transporters moving livestock from northern Nigeria to the southern part of the country against subjecting animals to unnecessary suffering during transportation.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He also cautioned poultry sellers against carrying birds upside down and engaging in other harmful handling practices, stressing that animals deserve proper care and protection.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The director said the sensitisation campaign would be extended to livestock markets across the state to ensure compliance with animal welfare standards.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Chairman of the West African Rearers Association, Mustafa Andaza, welcomed the initiative, saying it would help livestock traders understand the importance of animal welfare and discourage harmful handling practices.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The campaign, themed “Healthy Animals, Productive Livestock for a Prosperous Jigawa State,” Police Command has rescued a 26-year-old suspected transformer vandal from a mob attack in Auyo Local Government Area of the state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The command’s spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the suspect, identified as Laminu Sha’aibu of Gumusuwa Village in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area, was arrested at Maskangayu Village in Auyo LGA on September 29, 2026.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the police received information from Ayan Village at about 3:30 p.m. that the suspect had been apprehended with vandalised transformer coils and was at risk of being attacked by a mob.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said police operatives immediately rushed to the scene, rescued the suspect and took him to the nearest primary health centre for medical attention.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suspect was treated and subsequently discharged, while the vandalised transformer coils were recovered.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shiisu said the suspect admitted during interrogation to spending three nights dismantling the transformer without being detected.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the police conducted further investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether other persons were involved.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the suspect has been charged before a competent court for prosecution.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, commended members of the public for providing timely information that as part of activities marking Global Animal Welfare Week.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Habib said the government would take strict action against livestock dealers who violated animal welfare guidelines.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that the campaign was designed to educate traders and transporters on proper feeding, hygiene, safe transportation and the humane handling of animals.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The director particularly cautioned transporters moving livestock from
