KAMPALA, UGANDA — Ugandan journalist Tonny Lukwago, professionally known as Waya Boy, has launched Verified By Waya, a digital education initiative aimed at equipping entrepreneurs, small businesses, and content creators with essential skills in branding, online visibility, and reputation management.

The platform is designed to help users establish professional online identities as digital platforms increasingly dictate how Ugandan businesses attract customers and how creators build public credibility.

Core Focus: Beyond Logos and Social Media Profiles

Speaking about the initiative, Lukwago emphasized that effective digital branding involves far more than simply creating a logo or opening social media accounts.

Verified By Waya focuses on teaching core identity fundamentals, including strategic brand positioning, consistent cross-platform messaging, professional visual standards, and long-term trust-building with target audiences.

For emerging local enterprises, these modules provide a blueprint for presenting products professionally. For digital creators, the platform offers guidance on converting online follower growth into sustainable personal brands.

Demystifying Social Media Verification and Credibility

A central objective of Verified By Waya is providing realistic education around online identity standards and social media verification.

The curriculum breaks down:

  • The critical differences between personal and commercial business profiles.
  • Standard requirements for maintaining uniform profiles, biographies, and contact details across networks.
  • Strategies to prevent impersonation and maintain authentic public information.

Crucially, the platform stresses that official verification decisions rest entirely with individual social media networks. By clarifying that publicity and third-party branding services cannot guarantee official verification badges, Lukwago aims to protect users from common digital scams and misleading promises.

Practical Learning Formats

Verified By Waya delivers its lessons through practical, accessible channels, including step-by-step written guides, video tutorials, real-world case studies, and social media learning modules.

Topics range from basic brand registration to avoiding common online identity pitfalls, ensuring learners can directly apply concepts to their operations.

Democratizing Digital Knowledge

As digital communication continues to shape Uganda’s economic landscape, Lukwago insists that professional branding skills should not be limited to large corporations or established marketing agencies.

Through Verified By Waya, he aims to democratize digital identity knowledge, giving local small business owners, freelancers, and emerging talent equal opportunity to participate confidently and safely in the digital economy.
