The Kano State House of Assembly, said it has formally received the State Police Bill and commenced its legislative review without delay.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kamaluddeen Sani-Shawai, on Friday.

Shawai said copies of the Bill have been circulated to all members for in-depth study, analysis and possible input for improvement where necessary.

He said the bill is scheduled for second reading on Oct. 12,  after individual review by the members.

According to him, the State Police Bill was read on the floor of the House during a recent plenary session, during which members were given the opportunity to begin proper legislative consideration of the Bill in accordance with due process.

“It is anticipated that after members have completed their individual review, the Bill will be scheduled for second reading on 12th October, 2026, for further deliberation and approval by the entire House.”

Speaking on the development, the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il-Falgore, reiterated that Kano State is fully committed and prepared to confront security challenges head-on.

Falgore stressed that while Kano remains relatively peaceful compared to many other states in the country, proactive legislation is crucial to sustaining and strengthening the state’s security architecture.
