The Kano State House of Assembly has approved six commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf following a screening exercise on Monday, October 26, 2026.
The sitting was presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore, who presented the nominees to lawmakers for consideration.
The confirmed nominees are former Air Commodore Salisu Yusha’u, Ibrahim Namadi, Professor Sani Lawan, Muktar Ishaq Yakasai, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa and Idris Garba Mustapha.
During the screening, the nominees presented their academic qualifications, professional experience and readiness to serve in the state government.
According to a statement by the Assembly’s Press Secretary, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, lawmakers representing Doguwa, Tudun Wada, Fagge, Kiru, Madobi, Dala and Aliyu Bagwai/Shanono constituencies took part in the deliberations.
The lawmakers assessed the candidates’ qualifications, work experience and ability to contribute to governance and development in Kano State.
“The lawmakers considered the suitability of the nominees at a time when their contributions were needed to advance the development of the state,” the Assembly spokesperson said.
The screening was part of the legislature’s constitutional duty to examine commissioner nominees before approving them for appointment.
All six candidates were unanimously confirmed without objection after the lawmakers reviewed their credentials and professional backgrounds.
The approval clears the way for Governor Yusuf to assign portfolios to the new commissioners, who are expected to oversee different ministries and support the implementation of government policies and programmes.
Their inclusion will strengthen the state executive council, which advises the governor on policy decisions and supervises the delivery of government programmes across various sectors.
