Kano court adjourns land dispute involving Emir of Rano to July 2026

A Kano State High Court has postponed the hearing in a land dispute case involving the Emir of Rano and several other defendants until July 9, 2026.

The case was filed by Inusa Alasan and 26 other plaintiffs, who are challenging the ownership of 27 parcels of farmland located in Gafan, Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State.

The plaintiffs told the court that they inherited the farmland from their parents and have owned it for many years. They are seeking a court order to confirm their ownership of the land.

The defendants include the Emir of Rano, Alhaji Ado Alasan, Alhaji Muhammad Isah of Bunkure LGA, Syno Hydro Trimming Company, and nine others.

Earlier, on April 29, Justice Nasiru Saminu granted an interim injunction restraining the defendants from entering, cultivating, selling, leasing, mortgaging, or interfering with the disputed land until the court determines the matter. The order also halted any construction work on the farmland.

When the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, lawyers informed the court that court documents had not yet been fully served on all parties.

Speaking after the proceedings, counsel to the plaintiffs, Abubakar Tijjani Bebeji, said his clients were seeking “a perpetual order affirming their ownership of the land, which they inherited from their parents.”

He added that the interim injunction issued by the court remains in force.

However, counsel to the defendants, Muhammed Aminu Abdullahi, maintained that his clients acquired the land through due process.

He said the court would consider all pending applications when the case resumes on July 9, 2026.
