Kano State High Court has directed the Nigeria Police Force to immediately investigate allegations of criminal conspiracy, assault, intimidation and illegal demolition involving Hon. Muazu Abdullahi-Gwarzo, who represents Gwarzo/Kabo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The order followed a petition by Sulaiman Isah, a resident of Gwarzo Local Government Area, who accused the lawmaker, popularly known as Baban Gandu, of overseeing the demolition of his property, ordering his assault and threatening to kill him.
A letter dated October 19, 2026, from the Registrar of the Kano State High Court directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Zonal Intelligence Department to conduct a thorough investigation.
The letter cited Section 107 (4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, ACJL, 2019. The action followed a petition submitted by A.S. Tunkuyau & Associates, lawyers representing Isah, on the directive of the Chief Magistrate presiding over Court No. 5 in Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano.
According to the petition, the incident happened at about 11 pm on October 16, 2026, when Isah returned from Karaye Local Government Area to his residence in Danbare Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
He allegedly found some people demolishing an unfinished building on land he had recently purchased, with the lawmaker reportedly present at the scene supervising the operation.
The petition said Isah brought out his mobile phone to record the demolition as evidence, but the lawmaker allegedly became angry and instructed the people at the scene to attack him and take his phone.
“When Isah brought out his mobile phone to record the demolition to preserve evidence, the lawmaker allegedly became angry and instructed the individuals to assault him and seize his phone,” the legal filing stated.
It also quoted the alleged instruction in Hausa as: “Ku kwace wayar, ku daka min shi," meaning take the phone away from him, beat him to a pulp.
Isah said the disagreement started after he bought the land from a series of previous buyers. According to his account, the lawmaker later expressed dissatisfaction with the sale, insisting that the property should not have been sold, and subsequently denied having transferred ownership.
The petition further alleged that four men identified as Musa Danfulani, Yahya Dankwangila, Sa’adu Abdullahi and Abubakar Magini attacked Isah when he attempted to record the demolition.
They allegedly inflicted several bruises on him before a neighbour, identified as Alkali, intervened and rescued him from further harm.
Isah’s lawyers called on the police to carry out an impartial investigation, stressing that the lawmaker’s political position or legislative status should not prevent the authorities from pursuing the case.
They also warned that failure to address the alleged threats could worsen tensions in the community.
