Daily Post about 3 hours 2 mins read

The Kano State High Court No. 2 has sentenced Auwalu Adamu, a resident of Yantaji Village in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State, to death by hanging after finding him guilty of culpable homicide.

The court, presided over by Justice Yusuf Ubale, also sentenced Adamu to life imprisonment for armed robbery.

The judgment was delivered on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in a case brought by the Kano State Government against Adamu under Sections 221(b) and 298(c) of the Penal Code, Cap. 105, Laws of Kano State 1991, as amended.

The case followed an incident on July 31, 2021, at Kwarin Makera in Gamoji Village, Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State.

Adamu was accused of attacking and repeatedly stabbing Saleh Audu Barau in the face with a knife at about 8 pm.

During the trial, the prosecution presented five witnesses before closing its case.

Adamu subsequently testified in his own defence but did not call any additional witnesses.

After reviewing the evidence and arguments presented by both sides, the court convicted him of the charges and imposed the sentences.

Reacting to the judgment, Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, praised the Chief State Counsel, Barrister Hannatu Abdulmalik, for her commitment and professionalism in handling the prosecution.

Maude said the outcome demonstrated the ministry’s determination to pursue justice, particularly in cases involving the protection of lives, property and the interests of Kano residents.

He also reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the judiciary, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that criminal cases are diligently prosecuted in accordance with the law.
