The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has presented cheques worth ₦7.57 million to 17 families of police officers who died in the line of duty.
The Kano State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the cheques were presented on Monday, at the police command headquarters in Bompai, Kano, under the Group Life Assurance Scheme of the Nigeria Police Force.
“A total of ₦7,573,231.83 was distributed to 17 beneficiaries under the Group Life Assurance Scheme for families and next-of-kin of police officers who died in the line of duty,” the statement said.
Bakori presented the cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
According to him, the initiative showed that the sacrifices of officers who died in service would not be forgotten.
“We remain committed to the welfare of our serving officers, retired personnel and the families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty,” Bakori said.
“Every soul shall taste death. While I urge the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the benefits, you should try to be visiting the friends of your relative. The end of their life should not be the end of the good relationship you had with their friends. My door is always open to render any assistance if needed,” Bakori said.
The commissioner also assured the beneficiaries that the command would continue to prioritise the welfare of police personnel and ensure the prompt processing and payment of entitlements due to officers who died or sustained injuries in service.
He added that more welfare packages were being planned for families of fallen officers.
