Kano Hisbah bans commercial film distribution on phones at charging centres

Kano State Hisbah Board has banned commercial film distribution on phones, usually done at phone charging centres, in the 44 local government areas of the state, with immediate effect.

The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr Mujahideen Aminudden, announced this on Thursday in Kano.

Aminudden said the decision followed complaints from parents alleging that some operators of phone charging centres share uncensored films and explicit content with children.

He said the practice was exposing minors to materials capable of undermining their moral upbringing.

According to him, many of the films being distributed are neither censored nor protected by copyright, while some operators also share content considered inappropriate for children.

He added that “under the guise of sharing religious content, some phone charging centres end up distributing materials harmful to children’s moral development.”

The commander general said films were categorised according to age suitability, but some operators disregarded such classifications by distributing content meant for adults to minors.

Aminudden said the board had deployed personnel across the 44 local government areas of the state to enforce compliance with the directive.

He warned that anyone found engaging in the prohibited business would be prosecuted.
