The Kano State Police Command says security arrangements have been completed for the Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area State Constituency by-election scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Kano State held a final strategic meeting on Tuesday at the office of its Co-Chairman, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
The meeting reviewed the security and logistical arrangements for the election, including plans to protect voters, electoral officials, election materials and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the meeting, Bakori said the police and other security agencies were fully prepared for the election.
“All necessary security arrangements have been concluded in liaison with other ICCES member agencies. We have deployed adequate personnel, intelligence assets, and operational resources to cover all polling units, collation centers, and strategic locations within Dawakin Kudu LGA,” he said.
“The Nigeria Police Force, in synergy with sister security agencies, is fully prepared to guarantee the safety of voters, INEC officials, election materials, and all stakeholders before, during, and after the election.”
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State and Chairman of ICCES, Amb. Zango Abdu, also said the Independent National Electoral Commission had completed its preparations for the election.
He said arrangements had been finalised for the deployment of both sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials.
During the meeting, security agencies reviewed intelligence reports and possible threats, and identified flashpoints within the area. They also discussed ways to improve cooperation and ensure a quick response to any security challenges.
ICCES resolved to increase joint patrols, monitor social media for misinformation and ensure strict enforcement of electoral laws.
The police urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to follow the rules and avoid violence, vote-buying and other actions that could disrupt the election.
