KASSANDA, UGANDA — In a major political boost for Kassanda District, prominent grassroots mobiliser and adolescent counsellor Hope Nankunda has been declared the official National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer for the National Council elections.
Nankunda’s rise to the national stage follows her smooth, unopposed endorsement during the party’s district-level selection process. The NRM Electoral Commission confirmed her leadership ticket alongside a unified Kassanda executive committee, setting the stage for her elevation to national representation.
A dedicated Rotarian and girls’ rights advocate, Nankunda has built a strong reputation in Kassanda through her work in community transformation, youth mentorship, and women’s economic empowerment. Her elevation to the National Council brings local grassroots priorities from Kassanda straight into the ruling party’s core decision-making organs.
Speaking following the party’s national structure announcements, political observers noted that Nankunda’s inclusion in the executive slate—where she serves alongside newly designated national flagbearers such as Chairperson Ann Lumumba Ruyondo and Vice Chairperson Agnes Kirabo—signals a intentional effort by the NRM to blend proven district-level organizers with seasoned national figures.
Local leaders in Kassanda have welcomed the milestone, describing Nankunda’s election as a decisive victory for the district’s women and young people.
