Katsina Police Foil Two Bandit Attacks, Rescue Kidnap Victim, Recover 15 Rustled Cattle

 

The Katsina State Police Command has thwarted two separate bandit attacks in Funtua and Musawa Local Government Areas, rescued a kidnapped victim unhurt, and recovered 15 rustled cattle in a series of coordinated security operations.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday, describing the operations as part of the Command’s sustained offensive against banditry under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage.

According to the statement, the first operation was carried out in the early hours of Sunday, July 19, 2026, after the Central Police Station (CPS), Funtua, received credible intelligence at about 2:00 a.m. that suspected armed bandits were attempting to move rustled cattle through the border communities between Funtua and Dandume Local Government Areas.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of CPS Funtua led a team of police operatives to the scene. On sighting the officers, the suspected bandits opened fire, leading to a gun battle.

The police operatives reportedly responded with superior firepower, forcing the assailants to flee into a nearby forest.

A search of the area led to the rescue of a kidnapped victim, identified as Hafiza Rabiu, who was found unharmed. The operatives also recovered seven rustled cattle. Police said the victim received medical attention before being reunited with her family.

In a separate operation on Friday, July 17, 2026, police responded to a distress call reporting that armed bandits had attacked Kuru Village in Musawa Local Government Area and made away with several cattle.

The DPO of Musawa Division immediately mobilised police operatives in collaboration with personnel of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) to pursue the fleeing suspects.

The joint security team tracked the bandits to a nearby bush, where they came under gunfire. The operatives engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon the stolen livestock and flee into the forest.

Eight additional rustled cattle were recovered during the operation.

The Police Command said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.

Commending the officers for their bravery and professionalism, Commissioner of Police Ali Umar Fage also praised members of the public for providing timely and credible intelligence that contributed to the successful operations.

He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with useful information, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to intensifying efforts to combat banditry and other violent crimes across Katsina State.
