A 10-year-old girl has been killed and her mother left fighting for her life following a suspected murder and attempted murder incident in Kazo District.
The deceased, identified as Ahimbisibwe Shallona, a Primary Two pupil at Keicumu Maranatha Primary School, was allegedly attacked alongside her mother, Kyomugisha Juliet, 28, at their home in Keicumu II Cell, Keicumu Parish, Engari Sub-county.
Police have arrested Kamukama Alon, who is reportedly the surviving victim’s husband, in connection with the November 3, 2026 incident.
According to preliminary police investigations, at about 11:00pm, the suspect reportedly approached neighbours and informed them that there was a dead body at his residence but did not disclose the identity of the deceased.
Alarmed by the revelation, the neighbours, led by the LC I Chairperson, rushed to the home, where they found the girl dead on a bed alongside her mother, who was lying in a pool of blood and in critical condition.
The community members rescued Kyomugisha and rushed her to Kagongo Hospital in Ibanda District for emergency medical treatment before reporting the matter to Police.
A team of homicide detectives, Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO), canine handlers and uniformed personnel, led by the Kazo District Police Commander, responded to the scene to commence investigations.
During the operation, a sniffer dog tracked a scent trail to Star Clinic in Keicumu, where the suspect was found receiving medical treatment. He was subsequently taken into Police custody to assist with investigations.
Police further revealed that the suspect maintains a traditional shrine at his residence, although the circumstances surrounding its relevance to the incident remain part of the ongoing investigations.
Investigators also established that Kyomugisha had entered the marriage with the suspect with a child from a previous relationship, who was the deceased girl.
At the scene, detectives recovered a white bucket containing reddish-coloured water, which is suspected to have been used by the suspect.
Police have not yet disclosed the suspected motive behind the attack as investigations continue.
