Historical epic KING KOSOKO: THE BATTLE FOR LAGOS is approaching ₦60 million at the Nigerian box office and will mark the milestone with a special Silverbird Reel Talk screening in Lagos this Friday, September 25.
The film, released nationwide on August 28 and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, dramatises the political struggles surrounding Oba Kosoko’s rise to the Lagos throne, his conflict with Akitoye and the British intervention that transformed the kingdom.
The Reel Talk event, sponsored by Silverbird Television and Rhythm FM, holds at Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, and goes beyond a regular screening: guests will watch the film and then join a live conversation with the director, producer and cast, with lead actor Femi Adebayo attending as special guest.

Speaking on the film’s performance, Executive Producer Ayo Ajayi said reaching the milestone in the prevailing cinema environment made the achievement even more significant.
“Approaching ₦60 million at the box office means far more to us than the figure alone, particularly because August and September have been generally slow months for cinemas,” Ajayi said.
“To reach this point under those market conditions demonstrates that Nigerian audiences will support ambitious films drawn from our own history.
“We knew that producing a historical epic of this scale would be commercially challenging, but we believed the story of Lagos deserved to be presented with authenticity, cinematic ambition and pride.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who has bought a ticket, supported a screening or encouraged others to see the film.”
Directed by Adebayo Tijani, KING KOSOKO features an ensemble cast led by Femi Adebayo as Kosoko and Odunlade Adekola as Akitoye. The cast also includes Tina Mba, Fathia Balogun, Femi Branch, Gabriel Afolayan, Prince Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Dele Odule, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Aishat Lawal, Niyi Johnson and Sola Kosoko.
The production explores themes of succession, power, loyalty, resistance and colonial intervention while presenting a cinematic interpretation of a defining period in Lagos history.
