Lagos deploys intelligent transport system, records over 737,000 traffic violations

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

The Lagos State Government has disclosed that over 737,000 traffic violations have been recorded through its Intelligent Transport System as part of efforts to improve road safety, traffic management, and digital governance across the state.

The Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Mr Olatunbosun Alake, made this known on Wednesday during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held at Alausa as part of activities marking the seventh anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

Alake said the State Government remains committed to using innovation, science, and technology to strengthen governance, improve public service delivery, and position Lagos as Africa’s leading smart city.

According to him, the Ministry has continued to make progress in key sectors such as digital governance, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, science education, enterprise architecture, and smart city development.

Speaking on the Safe City initiative, the Commissioner explained that Lagos had improved its digital surveillance and traffic enforcement systems across major locations within the state.

He noted that the initiative has contributed to better traffic compliance, improved road safety, and more effective security management.

“The Intelligent Transport System has recorded over 737,000 traffic violations to date, contributing to safer roads and better traffic behaviour across Lagos,”  The commissioner said.

Alake further disclosed that the Ministry had made significant progress in digitising government operations through the Enterprise Architecture initiative.

He said out of 211 Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, about 192 had already been evaluated, while 232 application workloads had been captured to help standardise processes, reduce IT project costs and improve operational efficiency across the state.

The Commissioner also highlighted the growing use of digital government services through the Lagos State Digital Service Platform, which he said currently attracts more than 250,000 visitors monthly.
