The Lagos State Government has directed all public and private schools in the state to make valid Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, LASRRA, registration a compulsory requirement for admitting and enrolling learners from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The directive will take effect on Monday, September 14, 2026, as schools are expected to obtain and document the valid LASRRA registration numbers of learners during the admission and enrolment process.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance, OEQA, Adepeju Adeyemi, and made available to journalists on Friday.
According to Adeyemi, the directive was approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, and is being implemented through the OEQA as part of the government’s efforts to create a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners across Lagos State.
Alli-Balogun said the initiative was designed to provide the government with dependable information that would enhance planning, monitoring and service delivery within the education sector.
The commissioner, according to the statement, said the inclusion of learners in the LASRRA database would strengthen school record-keeping, improve learner identification and verification, support effective tracking and provide government agencies with credible information for evidence-based decisions.
Adeyemi said schools had been instructed to capture every learner’s LASRRA registration number in their admission and school records while also creating awareness among parents and guardians about the new requirement.
She added that parents and guardians whose children or wards had not been registered with LASRRA should be encouraged to complete the registration before the start of the new academic session.
She stated, “Under the new arrangement, schools have been directed to include each learner’s LASRRA registration number in admission and school records and to sensitise parents and guardians on the requirement.
“Schools are also expected to advise parents whose children or wards are yet to register with LASRRA to complete the process ahead of the new academic session.”
The government, however, directed schools to protect the personal information of learners by ensuring that such data was processed and stored securely and confidentially in accordance with applicable data-protection regulations.
The Director-General of the OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said the agency would work with LASRRA and other relevant government bodies to establish procedures for generating and assigning unique Personal Identification Numbers to learners.
Ogunmuyiwa said schools, parents, guardians and learners would also receive sensitisation, registration and verification support as the policy takes effect.
He explained that compliance would be incorporated into the OEQA’s routine monitoring and quality-assurance activities in public and private schools across the state.
The OEQA Director-General consequently urged parents, guardians and school proprietors to ensure that their children, wards and learners were registered with LASRRA before the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session.
The development comes shortly after LASRRA warned its registration agents against demanding payment from residents for the registration exercise.
It would be recalled that the agency insisted that LASRRA registration was free and directed residents to report any agent who attempted to collect money for the service.
The General Manager of LASRRA, Bilikis Adebiyi-Abiola, also called on residents to report agents found demanding payment for the registration.
