Lagos Market Fire Guts 17 Shops

 

A midnight fire outbreak razed 17 containerised lock-up shops at Sabo Market in Ikorodu, Lagos State, in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the agency received a distress call at 12:42 a.m. and immediately deployed firefighters from the Ikorodu and Ijede Fire Stations to the scene. Emergency responders arrived at approximately 12:54 a.m. to find the fire engulfing 17 shops in a row of about 30 containerised lock-up shops.

The affected shops were located on a parcel of land measuring approximately 648 square metres within a larger premises covering about 1,944 square metres.

The combined efforts of firefighters from both stations successfully contained and extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the remaining shops and nearby properties.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident.

The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, adding that an investigation has commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service commended its personnel for their swift response, which helped avert what could have been a much larger disaster.
