Lagos seals church in Surulere over noise pollution

Daily Post 42 minutes 2 mins read

The Lagos State Government has shut down the All Christians Gathering Ministry in Surulere over alleged noise pollution following a complaint by a resident of the area.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the development in a statement shared on his X account on Sunday, noting that the closure followed an investigation by government officials.

According to Wahab, the ministry began investigating the church after receiving a complaint from a resident over excessive noise emanating from the premises.

He said the investigation established that the church was breaching environmental regulations and creating a nuisance for people living in the neighbourhood.

Following the findings, officials sealed the church, situated at No. 1, Ishola Street, off Clegg, Surulere, on Sunday. Wahab said the facility would remain closed until further notice.

The commissioner maintained that the state government would not allow individuals or organisations to engage in activities that violate environmental laws or undermine the peace and welfare of residents.

He stressed that religious organisations, commercial establishments and other institutions must adhere to environmental standards, warning that the government would continue to enforce the regulations without compromise.

“We will not tolerate environmental violations or any form of nuisance that disrupts the peace and well-being of residents. All religious institutions, businesses and other establishments are required to comply strictly with environmental regulations.

“Our enforcement actions will remain firm and decisive. No individual or institution is above the law,” Wahab said.
