Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone is considering a tactical change that could give Ademola Lookman a new role as he attempts to restore the Nigerian forward's best performances.
According to Spanish newspaper, Mundo Deportivo, Simeone is exploring the possibility of switching to a 4-3-3 formation, with Lookman potentially deployed as the team's left winger.
The Super Eagles forward has occupied several attacking positions this season, featuring as a left winger, second striker, centre-forward and attacking midfielder.
Lookman made an impressive start at Atletico Madrid following his move from Atalanta during the winter transfer window. He marked his debut with a goal and an assist in the club's emphatic 5-0 victory over Real Betis.
The 29-year-old subsequently became an important figure in Simeone's squad, playing a significant role in Atletico's journey to the Copa del Rey final and the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
He ended the campaign with an impressive record of nine goals and four assists in 24 appearances across competitions.
However, the former African Footballer of the Year has found it difficult to maintain that level of performance this season.
Lookman has managed just two goals and one assist in 13 appearances, accumulating 692 minutes of playing time.
Although he recently provided an assist for Julian against Stuttgart, his overall contribution was less convincing in Atletico's encounter with Deportivo.
His disappointing display reportedly prompted Simeone to withdraw him at half-time.
The Atletico manager is now considering whether a change in formation and positioning could help the Nigerian rediscover his attacking sharpness.
Deploying Lookman on the left side of a 4-3-3 system could give him more opportunities to use his pace, dribbling ability and attacking instincts.
Simeone will hope the tactical adjustment produces the desired improvement and helps Lookman reclaim his influential position in Atletico Madrid's attacking setup.
