— Charges appointees to uphold public service rules, financial regulations
By Idris Salisu
GUSAU — Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has sworn in five new permanent secretaries into the state civil service, charging them to comply with public service rules, financial regulations and other relevant laws.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Thursday at the Grand Chamber of the Government House in Gusau, with the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu, administering the oath of office.
The new permanent secretaries are Ahmad S. Zamfara, Nasiru Halilu Anka, Mu’azu Jibril Guraguri, Adamu Abdullahi Kanoma and Sani Muhammad Shinkafi.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lawal said the appointments reflected confidence in the officers’ experience, abilities and readiness to assume greater responsibilities in the state’s administration.
He said permanent secretaries played a critical role in providing administrative leadership, ensuring institutional continuity, advising on policy implementation and maintaining discipline within the civil service.
“Becoming permanent secretaries is more than personal advancement: as senior administrative leaders, your decisions and conduct directly affect government performance and the welfare of the people we serve,” the governor said.
Lawal said his administration remained committed to strengthening government institutions and improving public administration to support the state’s development agenda.
He urged the appointees to ensure that government policies were backed by proper planning, realistic implementation strategies, effective supervision and continuous assessment of results.
“Proper planning, realistic implementation strategies, effective supervision and continuous assessment of results must support policies and programmes,” he said.
The governor also advised the permanent secretaries to maintain professional relationships with commissioners and other political officeholders, stressing the need for cooperation between political leaders and career civil servants.
“Political leaders set policy; career civil servants provide the institutional knowledge, technical advice, and administrative capacity to implement it. These roles complement each other, and the effectiveness of the government depends on mutual respect,” he said.
Lawal said the civil service remained central to translating government decisions into tangible results, particularly in the delivery of essential services and the implementation of reforms aimed at meeting the needs and aspirations of Zamfara residents.
He urged the new permanent secretaries to approach their assignments with discipline, professionalism and a clear understanding of the administration’s priorities.
