Kayode Adebayo, alleged that the APC was behind the purported plan.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the opposition party, the alleged plot, if established, would undermine the electoral process and infringe on citizens’ rights to participate freely in elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The PDP said, “According to reports at our disposal, the ruling APC is allegedly perfecting plans to deploy hired thugs and miscreants to various INEC collection centres with the nefarious objective of disrupting the process, intimidating legitimate registrants, and carting away PVCs belonging to innocent citizens.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The party urged INEC to take proactive measures to protect the collection exercise across Ogun State’s 20 local government areas.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“We therefore call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be exceedingly vigilant, proactive, and uncompromising in securing all PVCs and collection centres across the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State,” the statement said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to deploy adequate personnel to collection points and respond promptly to any incidents of intimidation or disruption.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The PDP further urged security agencies to investigate suspected acts of electoral interference and prosecute anyone found culpable in accordance with the law.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond its appeal to the authorities, the party advised residents to remain vigilant and law-abiding throughout the collection exercise.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It cautioned eligible voters against surrendering their PVCs to unauthorised individuals and encouraged them to report suspicious activities to INEC officials or security personnel.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Your PVC is your inalienable right and the potent weapon with which to determine your future,” the party said, adding that voters should not surrender their cards to any individual under any circumstances.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opposition party maintained that no political organisation should interfere with citizens’ constitutional rights to vote, stressing the need for a peaceful and credible electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“The PDP reiterates unequivocally that no political party, no matter how desperate, has the right to interfere with the constitutional right of Nigerians to vote,” the statement added.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The party reaffirmed its commitment to what it described as a peaceful, transparent, credible and inclusive electoral Building Safety Awareness Programme, themed “Building Safe, Compliant and Quality Structures,” which took place at the Oronna Hall, pushed for strict adherence to approved plans, certified professionals and State building regulations.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Speaking during the programme, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPl Abiola Ayodele, urged participants and the public to engage the services of qualified professionals to comply with the state’s building regulations, warning that any detected violation would attract stiff penalties.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He noted that the state government frowns at any action that could lead to building collapse, which could ultimately claim lives and destroy properties.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, represented by the Aguro of Ilaro and Secretary, Olu-Ilaro-In-Council, Chief Ayo Dawotola, signalled the traditional institution’s concern for the safety of lives and property in communities, enjoining all present to inform other members of their various associations and groups to adhere strictly to the standards as agreed at the forum.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Acting General Manager, OGBPMA, Builder Titilayo Oladogbon, took participants through the Authority’s expectations and the processes involved in building compliance, disclosing that the Ogun State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BCPG, a non-governmental organisation, to support the supervision of construction across the State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The State Chairman of BCPG, Builder Ogunsola Adedayo, explained the Guild’s role in curbing collapses and promoting quality construction.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp> He said its members were spread across the zones and work alongside OGBPMA staff and the District and Zonal Town Planning Officers to curb recurring collapses caused by non-conformity with standards.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Other professionals in the Authority encouraged builders and property owners to “Build Right” using approved building plans, engaging certified professionals and complying with OGBPMA regulations, urging property owners to obtain proper Building Authorisation letter and stage certification before and during construction.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Stakeholders used the forum to appeal to the government to make assessment fees and other levies affordable for all, arguing that high charges push people to avoid building permits and other statutory payments, a practice that had undermined the very safety issue the programme sought to promote.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Ca
