The Presidential Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has unveiled his “Reset Nigeria Agenda,” promising far-reaching reforms in the economy, education, security and governance if elected President in 2027.
Speaking at the Makinde/Daura 2027 Presidency North-West Zonal Town Hall Meeting in Katsina, Makinde said Nigeria could only achieve sustainable development through issue-based politics and a leadership committed to constitutional democracy.
He outlined four key pillars of his administration, saying the economy must become more productive and competitive through investment in skills, knowledge and round-the-clock economic activities.
Makinde also pledged to overhaul the education sector by addressing the challenge of out-of-school children through reliable data and targeted interventions.
On security, the APM presidential candidate described the recent deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in Niger State as a national tragedy, stressing that governments must address the root causes of insecurity rather than focusing solely on enforcement. He advocated the devolution of mining responsibilities to state governments while the Federal Government retains regulatory oversight.
He further promised to reform Nigeria’s socio-political system by devolving more powers to the states to improve governance and service delivery.
Makinde also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s reported “working leave,” arguing that the Constitution requires the President to formally transmit power to the Vice President whenever proceeding on vacation or becoming unable to discharge the functions of office.
Citing Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution, he pledged to strictly comply with constitutional provisions if elected President.
“I will follow the Constitution to the letter. Whenever I am unavailable or on vacation, I will transmit power to the Vice President. Record this and hold me accountable,” he declared.
Makinde also dismissed claims by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that the Federal Government provided ₦50 billion for the upgrade of the Ibadan Airport, insisting the project is being financed entirely by the Oyo State Government.
The APM flag bearer urged Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and support what he described as a movement to rebuild the country, insisting the 2027 election would be “APC versus Nigerians.”
He promised to return to all North-West states, including Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Zamfara and Jigawa, as part of his state-by-state campaign tour.
Also speaking, the APM Vice Presidential Candidate and former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura, identified insecurity as the region’s greatest challenge.
Daura said the Makinde-led administration would adopt alternative strategies to tackle insecurity, reduce violence and restore peace across the country.
He added that the party would soon unveil comprehensive policy proposals aimed at changing the national mindset and delivering meaningful reforms for all Nigerians.
