The Chief of Staff to the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Segun Ogunwuyi, resigned from the government.

Ogunwuyi resigned on Monday, October 12, 2026, becoming one of several aides to have left the Makinde administration in the last two months, a development that has drawn attention to the political undercurrents within the Oyo State Government as the 2027 general elections approach.

His resignation has fuelled speculation about a possible political realignment towards the All Progressives Congress (APC), amid internal wranglings within the governor’s political camp, sources familiar with the developments have said.

A source familiar with the political developments in Oyo State told our correspondent that Ogunwuyi’s resignation could be linked to internal wranglings within the governor’s political camp, amid speculation that he might be considering a move to the APC.

“There have been internal disagreements within the political camp, and Ogunwuyi’s resignation has further fuelled speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.”

“There are suggestions that he could be considering joining the APC, but we cannot say that definitively at this stage,” the source said.

Although Ogunwuyi did not disclose his reasons for leaving the government in his resignation letter, sources familiar with the situation suggested that internal political disagreements could be connected to the latest departure. There was, however, no official confirmation that he had decided to join the APC.

In his resignation letter dated 12 October 2026, Ogunwuyi said his decision took effect immediately, while expressing gratitude to Makinde for the opportunity to serve in the administration.

“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he wrote.

Describing his time in government as fulfilling, the former Chief of Staff said he was proud of the administration’s achievements and remained confident in the state’s continued progress.

“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” the letter read.

Ogunwuyi added that he remained proud of the collective accomplishments of the administration in advancing the state’s development.

“I remain immensely proud of what we have collectively accomplished in advancing the growth, development and prosperity of our dear State. As I take this decision, I do so with profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, with confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State,” he stated.

He concluded the letter by reaffirming his loyalty to the state and the country.

“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he wrote.

Ogunwuyi, a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, has occupied a prominent position in Makinde’s administration as Chief of Staff.

His departure came amid a series of resignations by political appointees in recent weeks, raising questions about the implications for the governor’s political camp ahead of the 2027 elections.

While speculation continues over Ogunwuyi’s next political move, particularly the possibility of joining the APC, neither he nor the governor’s office has publicly confirmed such a plan.
