KAMPALA — Malaika Mutoni Gashumba, wife of prominent businessman and social commentator Frank Gashumba, has officially graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) specializing in Human Resource Management from Victoria University Kampala. She was among thousands of students conferred degrees during the university’s 10th graduation ceremony, held from October 19 to 20, 2026, at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo.
Tuesday’s session celebrated graduands from the Faculty of Business and Management alongside the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences under the theme “The Future Is Here”—a call emphasizing technology, artificial intelligence, and practical skills tailored for the modern workforce.
“Worked Hard, Persevered, Prayed”
In an emotional post shared on X shortly before taking the stage, Malaika expressed deep gratitude for her academic journey:
“Worked so hard, persevered, prayed… Officially a Master of Business Administration graduate specialising in Human Resource Management. All glory to God.”
She tagged her husband Frank Gashumba, her stepdaughter Sheilah Gashumba, Victoria University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga, and family members who supported her along the way.
When asked about her research focus, Malaika revealed that her master’s thesis was titled:
“Employee Psychological Safety and Job Performance in the Public Sector of Uganda: A Case Study of KCCA Central Division.”
The study examined how workplace psychological safety directly impacts employee performance within Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)—a highly relevant subject for contemporary public-sector HR practice in Uganda.
Family Celebrates the Milestone
Frank Gashumba publicly praised his wife’s dedication, extending heartfelt appreciation to Victoria University and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Muganga for nurturing talent. Media personality Sheilah Gashumba also took to social media to celebrate her stepmother’s success.
Photos and videos circulating online captured a radiant Malaika clad in her academic regalia—a black gown accented with Victoria University’s signature red and blue colors and a matching red mortarboard—posing alongside family and well-wishers at Munyonyo. The posts have drawn thousands of likes and warm congratulations across social platforms.
Academic Excellence at Victoria University
Victoria University, established in 2013 and situated at Victoria Towers on Jinja Road, offers its two-year MBA in Human Resource Management through flexible on-campus and online learning streams. The curriculum blends core leadership principles with advanced coursework in industrial relations and organizational change, anchored by work-integrated learning.
University officials confirmed that approximately 2,500 students graduated across the two-day event, positioning the ceremony as both a personal milestone for graduates and a benchmark for skill-building in a technology-driven economy.
A Milestone Year
The achievement comes during a memorable period for the Gashumba family following their high-profile traditional introduction ceremony (Kwanjula) in Sembabule District in May 2025.
While Frank Gashumba—Chairman of Mali Group and co-founder of Sisimuka Uganda—remains a dominant figure in national public discourse, Malaika (a development officer by profession) has maintained a more private profile, making this academic milestone a celebrated highlight for the family and well-wishers alike.
