Man allegedly stabs customer to death over N500 balance for mobile phone purchase

Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Lawisi Safiyanu, for allegedly stabbing 25-year-old Muhammad Abba to death following a dispute over a N500 balance from the purchase of a mobile phone in Dutse Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen.

He said the incident occurred at about 12:30am on October 1, 2026, at Chamo village, Dutse LGA.

According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased had purchased a mobile phone from the suspect for N1,500, but paid only N1,000 and was unable to immediately settle the outstanding N500.

The unpaid balance reportedly led to an argument between the two men, during which Safiyanu allegedly used a knife to stab Abba.

The victim was rushed to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital, Dutse, for treatment but died while receiving medical attention.

The police said the suspect was arrested and the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.

The command added that investigation had been completed and the suspect charged to court to face the law.
