Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

A 24-year-old man, Usman Idris, has had his wrist chopped off with a machete during a political clash in Bauchi metropolis.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:30 am on Wednesday in the Bakin Kura area of the state capital.

The Bauchi State Police Command said the victim was involved in an altercation with one Lawi before another man, identified as Mamman Gore, allegedly arrived with a machete and attacked him.

The attack left Idris seriously injured and unconscious.

He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he is receiving treatment and responding to medical care.

The police spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, adding that operatives of the A Division Township had arrested Lawi in connection with the incident.

He said the principal suspect, Mamman Gore, had fled and that efforts were ongoing to arrest him.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned political violence and thuggery, warning that the command would not tolerate acts capable of threatening peace and security in Bauchi State.

He urged residents to shun violence and report suspicious activities to the police.
