Many Feared Dead As Helicopter Crashes Into River In Ondo

Many people are feared dead after a helicopter reportedly crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, throwing the riverine community into panic as residents reportedly scrambled for safety.

A resident who confirmed the incident said the helicopter had crashed in the community, although details about the number of people aboard and possible survivors remained unclear at the time of filing this report.

The resident said, “Yes, it’s true. A helicopter just crashed now at Igbokoda, Ondo State.”

According to the resident, efforts were ongoing to reach the crash site and determine the extent of the incident and possible casualties.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, said he was unaware of the crash but promised to make inquiries.

Igbokoda is a major commercial centre in Ilaje, a coastal and oil-producing area where helicopters are frequently used for oil and gas logistics operations.

The cause of the reported helicopter crash had not been established as of the time of filing the report.

Authorities were yet to provide an official account of the incident or confirm the number of casualties.

Further details are expected as emergency responders and security authorities establish what happened at the reported crash site.
