Nollywood actress, Juliana Olayode has defended women who desire marriage, stating that wanting to become a wife does not make a woman desperate or lacking in purpose.
The actress made the remarks in a post shared on her Instagram page, where she argued that women should be free to choose the kind of life they want without facing criticism.
According to Olayode, women who are happily single or have no interest in marriage should be respected for their choices, just as those who desire marriage should be allowed to express that desire without being shamed.
She maintained that not every woman who wants a husband is desperate, stressing that being excited about marriage does not diminish a woman’s ambition or personal achievements.
“Wanting to get married is not a personality disorder,” she wrote.
The actress noted that while some marriages end painfully and the institution comes with challenges, many people still view marriage as a beautiful union and hope to experience it.
Olayode also recounted an incident at a salon where she overheard some women criticising another woman for expressing her desire to get married.
She said she offered her opinion during the discussion and later found humour in the situation after coming across a “BRIDE” swimsuit gifted to her by a friend in 2024.
The actress noted that people are free to decide that marriage is not for them, but should extend the same freedom to those who wish to get married.
The actress added that women can aspire to different things in life, including faith, purpose, career success, financial stability, friendship, family and marriage.
Olayode concluded by wishing everyone who desires marriage a good partner and a fulfilling union, ending her message with the words: “Up Love! Up Marriage!”
