Eight suspended members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have met President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa after reaffirming their commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers were led to the meeting by the Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, an APC chieftain.
In a statement issued on Monday, Matawalle’s Personal Assistant on Media, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, said the legislators restated their support for Tinubu and their determination to remain in the ruling party.
According to the statement, Matawalle also promised to bring the lawmakers into the Tinubu Again Movement (TAM), a political group working to support the President.
The move is aimed at strengthening the party’s campaign efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the group expected to work for Tinubu and other APC candidates.
The lawmakers are Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South; Ibrahim Tukur Bakura of Bakura; Faruk Musa Dosara of Maradun I; Bashir Abubakar Masama of Bukkuyum North; Muktaru Nasiru Kaura of Kaura North; Nasiru Abdullahi of Maru North; Bashar Bello of Bungudu West; and Bashar Aliyu of Gummi I.
The eight legislators were suspended on February 26, 2024, over allegations of gross misconduct, conspiracy and holding an illegal sitting. Their suspension was extended on May 13, 2026.
However, the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, previously explained that the disciplinary action was taken before the lawmakers made their political decisions and was unrelated to their party affiliations.
