Medina United Football Club, champions of the 2025/26 Gambia Football Federation First Division League, have been drawn against Star Sport Academy of Sierra Leone in the preliminary round of the Caf club champions league.
The first leg of the two-legged tie is scheduled to be played in Freetown, Sierra Leone, during the first week of September 2026, with the return leg to be hosted by Medina United FC in The Gambia a few days later.
The fixture marks a historic milestone for Medina United FC as the club prepares to make its continental debut following an outstanding domestic campaign that saw the team crown champions of The Gambia for the 2025/26 season.
The club president and the management of Medina United FC expressed confidence in the team’s preparations and called on supporters, partners, and the wider Gambian football community to rally behind the club as it represents the nation on the continental stage.
“We are honoured to represent The Gambia in the Caf club champions league. This is a proud moment for our club, our supporters, and Gambian football. We look forward to a competitive encounter against Star Sport Academy and are committed to giving our very best,” a statement from the club said.
