Military airstrikes decimate terrorists’ convoy, neutralize scores of fighters in Borno [Video]

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai has carried out a series of airstrikes targeting suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, in northern Borno State, destroying several vehicles and killing scores of insurgents near Cross Kauwa and Ali Sherifti.

According to military sources, the operation commenced late on June 6 after an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, ISR, platform detected about 12 vehicles concealed under trees in a suspected terrorist staging area near Cross Kauwa.

A strike aircraft subsequently launched a precision attack on the location, destroying four vehicles and forcing the insurgents to disperse.

In a separate operation at Ali Sherifti early the following day, intelligence reports indicated that ISWAP fighters were preparing attacks on nearby communities.

Air assets reportedly identified eight suspected terrorists hiding under a tree and carried out a precision strike that killed five of them, while three escaped before impact.

Military sources said a follow-up strike was conducted after four additional insurgents were observed moving towards a concealed vehicle.

The strike killed all four individuals and destroyed the vehicle.

The military further disclosed that about 10 suspected terrorists later attempted to regroup approximately 250 metres south of the initial strike location at Cross Kauwa.

Air assets maintained surveillance of the area and remained on standby for further engagement.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to disrupt terrorist activities and degrade insurgent logistics and mobility networks in the North-East.

Military authorities said the strikes highlight the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led air operations in counterterrorism efforts.
