Minister Babalanda Orders Jinja RDCs Back to Office After Forced Leave

JINJA: The Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Milly Babalanda, has directed Jinja Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Kateregga and Kasibante Hassan to immediately return to their respective duty stations following a period of forced leave.

The two officials had been directed to step aside following a shooting incident during the July 10 LC1 elections in Jinja District, in which police officers allegedly shot and killed two civilians and injured others.

Following the incident, the Minister ordered the two RDCs—who are part of the district security leadership—to take forced leave amid concerns about the security response to the violence.

However, following investigations into the incident, the Minister was informed by senior officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate that the two RDCs were not implicated in the shooting.

During a Busoga regional RDCs’ workshop, Minister Babalanda subsequently directed Kateregga and Kasibante to immediately return to their duty stations and resume their responsibilities.

The Minister also praised the two officials for their mobilisation efforts during the LC1 elections, noting the strong performance of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the district.

She particularly commended Kasibante Hassan for remaining firm during the election period and maintaining close engagement with the local population.

The directive effectively brings an end to the forced leave and clears the two officials to resume their duties in Jinja District.
