KAMPALA — State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere has clarified the circumstances surrounding a Shs5 million financial disbursement to TikTok personality Benitah, addressing public speculation after earlier promising her a $10,000 (approx. Shs37 million) relief package.
The public spat erupted after reports surfaced that Benitah had lost her employment in Bahrain. In response to her plight, Minister Nameere publicly offered to step in with substantial financial assistance and help secure alternative employment. However, online friction ensued after Benitah accused the minister of reneging on the original $10,000 pledge.
Setting the record straight, Nameere explained that her team conducted a background verification following the initial commitment, which revealed critical inconsistencies in the social media influencer’s account of her job loss and overall situation abroad.
Based on these findings, the minister’s advisory team recommended withholding the full $10,000 sum. Nameere noted that upon being informed of the decision, Benitah specifically requested Shs5 million to clear an urgent outstanding debt in Bahrain. The requested amount was subsequently dispatched directly through the minister’s personal assistant.
Nameere maintained that the financial adjustment was an administrative decision driven by accountability and due diligence rather than bad faith, noting that support must be grounded in verified facts.
