JINJA – Jinja City came to a standstill on Saturday, August 29, 2026, as Bishop Dr. Zachariah Sserwadda and his wife, Rev. Robinah Sserwadda, celebrated 50 years of marriage and 51 years of ministry. The event drew thousands of residents, religious leaders, and dignitaries from across East Africa.
The couple made a grand arrival, landing by helicopter at Main Street Primary School before boarding a white, vintage donkey-pulled Rolls Royce decorated with flowers.
Dressed in matching white attire, they led a procession through the streets accompanied by the Uganda Police Band and a motorcade of over 50 luxury vehicles. Crowds lined the roads as the procession moved toward Evangel Church World Vision on Oboja Road for the main service.
State Minister for Local Government, Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga, represented Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the congregation, Hon. Nameere delivered a firm message against corruption, calling it the single greatest obstacle to national development. She noted that several local government officials continue to face scrutiny for diverting public funds intended for infrastructure, healthcare, and education to fund lavish lifestyles.
“The war on corruption requires both firm government action, moral reawakening, and divine intervention,” Nameere stated, urging religious leaders to join the fight through prayer and moral guidance. She shared her personal experience of resisting bribery attempts during her tenure as a Senior Presidential Advisor, appealing to parents to raise God-fearing children with strong integrity.
Hon. Nameere praised the Sserwaddas as an example of enduring faith and marriage, celebrating their commitment to ministry and their family of 10 children and 40 grandchildren.
The festivities concluded with the launch of Bishop Sserwadda’s memoir, Pressed Down But Not Crushed, inspired by 2 Corinthians 4:8-9. The milestone event gathered over 1,000 guests, including clergy and leaders from Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
