‘Misplaced Priorities’- Delta gov under fire over viral church ushering video

Daily Post about 4 hours 3 mins read

Nigerians have criticised Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, after a video showing him and his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, performing ushering duties during a church service surfaced online.

The video, shared by the governor’s media aide, Ossai Ovie Success, showed the governor and his wife ushering worshippers and dancing during Sunday service at Winners Chapel, Osubi, Delta State.

Accompanying the video, Success wrote: “Delta Governor doing ushering work in church today.”

He added: “This morning at Winners Chapel Osubi, Delta State, Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, accompanied by his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, were active in their ushering duty and also dancing gloriously to God at Winners Chapel.”

However, the video has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with several Nigerians condemning the governor’s actions and describing them as a political stunt.

Here are some of the reactions gathered by DAILY POST.

@JoshJayv02 wrote: “Na that one be work wey they send am, abi?

Misplaced priorities. I wonder the people wey still fall for those useless tricks.”

@KhalebIO wrote: “Focus on governance and leave this nonsense posturing!

You have the greater ministry of managing the lives of people than this performative bullshit.”

@Adenry wrote: “Yet, won’t govern his state as a true Christian… I ask again, what’s the use of Nigerian version of Christianity when it doesn’t fill people that practice it with reverence for God or ethical values that align with the teachings of Christ?”

@I amDRE wrote: “E reach time to campaign for returning election, he turn usher. How many times has he done this in his 3 years plus in the office? Una go just dey deceive una sef.”

@UzowuruE wrote: “Faith without works (fruits of righteousness) is dead. After dining with APC and defending their wickedness, you are here doing GOD’S work. I no blame you, na Winners Chapel I blame.”

@Rapidospa wrote: “Hope it’s not lip service. He should act as a Christian in his governance, not only in church.”

@Eandre wrote: “Those are BULSHIT! What is he doing with Kingdom mind he claims he has as a sitting Governor? THE SO-CALLED GOVERNOR CAN FOOL HIMSELF. The kingdom of God is not in bread but in demonstrating Godliness.

LET HIM RULE WELL IN RIGHTEOUSNESS, NOT THIS MUMU THING HE’S DOING.”

@ovodom21 wrote: “We’ve seen politicians buy corn by d roadside, share food in party, etc. Just the other day his SA complained he’s inaccessible. So why act as if he is meek, humble and accessible?

Pretence is d old!”

@BanksTariq wrote: “@ossaiovie Pls, how does this translate to Delta State development? State with no good road, functional industrial park, deep sea port, youth empowerment programme to develop technical skills in info tech and AI. The state seems most backward in South South with its huge resources.”

@ezecollins 35m wrote: “Is campaigning in church not a sin against the Bible?”
